Position Summary

The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer in American Sign Language with expertise in teaching ASL at all proficiency levels. This ten-month, renewable, non-tenure track appointment begins August 1, 2023.

 

This position is benefits-eligible with the opportunity for promotion. IUPUI welcomes applications from candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to diversity.

 

The Department of World Languages and Cultures offer a full range of ASL language courses. The person in this position will teach four undergraduate ASL classes per semester (80%) and will have service responsibilities (20%) including interaction with students in the ASL lab, participation in department and university faculty activities, and networking with the Deaf community.

  • MA in American Sign Language or related field ASL teaching experience Commitment to fostering a diverse and equitable learning environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented evidence of Teaching excellence to meet the needs of diverse learners Proficiency teaching multiple modalities (face to face, hybrid, and online) Proficiency with various instructional technologies such as Canvas, Zoom, and GoReact Involvement in local, state, and national organizations that promote bests practices in ASL Education Proficient at navigating cross-cultural communication in an academic setting Involvement in the Deaf community Experience with curriculum development and improvement Ability to teach ASL-English Interpreting courses a plus

$40,000 - $46,000/FLX
