Colgate University, a top-ranked liberal arts college, is seeking
an Associate Director of Alumni Relations to create and implement
programs and initiatives that fully embrace the identities,
experiences, and backgrounds of the alumni community. Founded in
1819, Colgate is a small, highly selective residential liberal arts
college for students of talent who are preparing for lives of
leadership and productive citizenship. The University recently
launched a $1B campaign in support of theThird-Century
, a comprehensive roadmap that will advance Colgate’s
efforts to pursue its mission at the highest level and establish
Colgate as one of the finest undergraduate institutions in the
nation. One of the components—the Plan for Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion ( DEI )— stands as Colgate’s most definitive plan in 200
years for elevating the importance of diversity, equity, and
inclusion throughout the institution.
Accountable for creation and delivery of programs and events to
strengthen alumni connection and engagement for alumni affinity
groups, specifically alumni of color, First Generation, OUS,
LGBTQ+, Asian/Asian American, and Latinx, among others. Develops
programming in ways that enhance understanding of the university,
and Plan for Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion ( DEI ), and Colgate’s DEI initiatives.
Responsible for creating and implementing annual plans that lead to
greater alumni participation, innovative and robust programming,
and stronger ties between alumni of color and historically
marginalized communities and the University, with one another, and
Serve as lead for the Partnership for Racial Progress ( PRP ), a
group of alumni of color who seek to enhance life at the University
and promote a sense of community and connection among Colgate
Responsible for effective identification, recruitment, management,
training, stewardship and engagement of volunteers connected to
various identity groups including alumni of color, First
Generation, OUS, LGBTQ+, Asian/Asian American, and Latinx, among
others. Responsible for preparing written briefing documents for
Collaborates with the Dean of College division to provide
opportunities for alumni to connect with students through Career
Services, Colgate’s Africana, Latin, Asian, and Native American (
ALANA ) Cultural Center, and other programs and departments.
Approximately 15 percent of time will be spent supporting affinity
and identity groups with reunion celebrations and logistics.
Professional Experience/ Qualifications
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in event
planning, project management, volunteer management, alumni
relations, diversity, equity, and inclusion, student services,
and/or related fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience with diversity,
equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives, strategies and best
- Must be able to work collegially and effectively with a diverse
group of alumni, students, faculty, and staff on a daily
- Experience or aptitude for measuring success and reporting on
programs with quantitative and qualitative data.
- Comfort with fundraising and fundraising adjacent
- Enthusiastic commitment to advancing the University’s
- Professional and/or volunteer experience in educational,
advocacy, non-profit and/or related organizations.
- Familiarity with alumni relations and/or fundraising.
Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and experience from
which comparable skills are gained.
