The Opportunity

The School of Teacher Education (STE) in the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning, lecturer position anticipated to begin Fall 2023.

The Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) program in the School of Teacher Education at the College of Community Innovation and Education (CCIE) at UCF is seeking a dynamic individual with strong teaching, supervision, and interpersonal skills to join our program as a lecturer in the Early Childhood Development and Education program on the Orlando campus. Our ECDE program offers degrees at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The B.S. in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) program at UCF prepares students to impact a diverse population of young children and families using research-based, developmentally appropriate practices through two tracks, a teacher certification, and a child development track. The M.S. program in ECDE is designed to meet the needs of professionals who want to work with young children and their families. The selected candidate will contribute to the School of Teacher Education and the Early Childhood Development and Education program’s mission by teaching and serving as the program coordinator of ECDE both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

  • Program coordination of B.S. and M.S. programs.
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate early childhood development and education courses, advising, supervising field and internship students, and program assessment.
  • Opportunities exist to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in student research.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Lead Early Childhood Development and Education program meetings and work collaboratively with the faculty to make program decisions and ensure program requirements are met.
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • By time of appointment, candidate must hold a doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education in early childhood development and education, or a related field.
  • Candidate must have at least three years of experience working with children birth through age 8 in a professional setting.
  • At least one year (two semesters) of teaching experience in an institution of higher education as the instructor of record for teacher preparation courses focusing on Early Childhood Development and Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have at least three years of PreK through Third grade teaching experience.
  • Evidence of community engagement.
  • Research focus on child development (Birth-8 years old) (e.g., conference presentations, publications, workshops, serving on research teams).
  • Teaching in a virtual environment.
  • Experience working in diverse settings.
  • Evidence of program development (e.g., community programs, teaching training, community engagement, parent training programs).
  • Experience with clinical and field experiences (e.g., serving as a site supervisor, university clinical coordinator, supervising teacher).
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate/graduate students in research and serving on thesis and dissertation committees.
  • Candidates with expertise in Early Childhood Development and Education, research in education and child development are encouraged to apply.
