Class Description

Provide program leadership, supervision, and daily administration of the Interior Design degree and certificate programs. Responsibilities include teaching interior design studio and lecture/seminar courses, curriculum development, student advising, participation in College and professional service and community outreach.

Minimum Requirements

Applicant must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a closely related field, have at least two years with a minimum of 12 credits of college level teaching experience, and at least four years of working experience in the commercial and residential interior design fields.

Preference given to candidates with NCIDQ certification and ASID professional or educator membership. Maryland certified, licensed interior designer, membership(s) in organizations such as ASID, IIDA, IDEC and/or IDEC and additional certifications such as NKBA and/ or LEED are preferred. Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe and rendering programs preferred.

Class Specific Essential Duties

Personnel Management

  1. Evaluate faculty and communicate the results to the chairperson
  2. Coordinate the recruitment of adjunct faculty
  3. Assign teaching loads
  4. Coordinate the preparation of contracts
  5. Encourage and coordinate the participation of faculty in discipline, department, school, campus, and college academic and non-academic activities
  6. Lead the orientation of new faculty as to the functions, activities, resources, policies, and procedures of the department and school


Budget Management

  1. Assist with preparation of the annual discipline/department budget request
  2. When directed, monitor budget expenditure and make periodic budget reports to the department chair
  3. Monitor the maintenance of equipment and initiate requests for repair or new equipment purchases




Program Administration

  1. Coordinate the evaluation of courses and curricula within the discipline
  2. Coordinate a periodic review of books and other instructional materials used in the discipline
  3. Communicate with faculty members regarding student progress and obstacles to student learning (including the review of placement for developmental courses and courses with prerequisites)
  4. Promote the goals and reputation of the discipline
  5. Assist in the preparation of class schedules
  6. Keep department chair and school dean aware of all significant developments with or relating to the discipline
  7. Serve as a source of information for students, community, counselors, advisors, administrators, and other faculty members concerning discipline policies and course content
  8. Approve requisitions for textbooks and other instructional materials
  9. Represent the discipline in meetings as needed
  10. Represent the department chair in meetings as requested
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the chair


Student Interaction

  1. Assist with outreach and recruiting activities
  2. Advise students within program discipline
  3. Support extra-curricular activities and events pertaining to the discipline
  4. Resolve student complaints and related issues according to college policy

Long-Term Disability

Plan pays 60% of gross monthly salary after 90 consecutive days of absence. Employee pays 100% of premium.

  • Roth 403(b) is a savings feature that is available when you open a 403(b) account. The Roth 403(b) savings feature allows employees to contribute after-tax dollars and then withdraw tax-free dollars from their account upon retirement. The Roth 403(b) savings feature is only offered by the following vendors: TIAA-CREF and VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc.
