Job Description

The Digital and SEO Specialist is responsible for creating and actively managing all search engine optimization and marketing activities for flagship and enterprise level digital properties. This includes keyword research, content and page optimization, blog strategy support, competitor analysis, performance monitoring, analytics evaluation and more. This position will assist the Director, Digital Strategy with identifying strategies and tactics to increase qualified organic visitors to Syracuse University websites and secure high-ranking visibility in search engines. The Digital and SEO Specialist also supports content publishing and curation, as needed, to advance marketing and organizational goals.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, marketing, communications, or a similar field and a minimum of 2-4 years of in-depth, hands-on experience in SEO, preferably in higher education.
  • An SEO specialist that lives and breathes SEO, is always learning and keeps up to date with the latest SEO practices and Google algorithm changes. Highly organized, creative and has an eager eye on SEO and digital marketing best practices, particularly when it comes to good content and user experience.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of search engine optimization practices and experience with website optimization tools.
  • Platform proficiency of Moz, SEMrush, Google Search Console, Google Optimize, Google Adwords and other SEO tools.
  • Experience with tactical activities such as page optimization, SEO content outlines, site auditing and analysis.
  • Prior experience developing SEO strategies for larger web properties.
  • Proven experience optimizing content for blogs, websites and/or social media accounts.
  • Prior experience in data analytics and content marketing.
  • Knowledge of Wagtail CMS a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writer and editor with significant attention to detail.
  • Track record of relationship building.
  • Proven record of successfully managing projects and able to juggle large volumes of work.
  • An excellent communicator, with a sense of empathy and human context to drive sensitive insights that help design and create solutions that serve audience needs. Responsibilities
  • Analyze the University’s organic and paid website and digital content to identify and implement opportunities to optimize from both an on-page, off-page, technical and content SEO perspective. Create, manage and maintain a consistent SEO strategy that allows for regular optimization of the University’s web assets. Analyze University site pages for areas that can be improved and optimized, identify keywords to drive organic traffic to the site, analyze keywords and SEO techniques used by competitors, develop link building strategies, and find/fix site crawl errors related to SEO . Act as liaison between the paid media group and content, relaying insights and recommending direction based on media performance and translating that information into improving strategy and tactics in organic search performance across digital properties. Share SEO guidelines and best practices with channel teams and campus partners. Monitor and report on SEO efforts, adapting and executing new strategies to continue boosting our ranking.
  • Create, manage and maintain digital content strategies as a part of the larger integrated marketing strategies on behalf of the University and/or individual units within the University. Adept at working within a content management system to update, curate, and manage digital content. Write, edit, proofread and develop content for digital platforms. Ensure content is appropriate for media and audience and is oriented in a way to advance established objectives and goals.
  • Implement and operationalize a digital-first approach through an effective process that incorporates SEO into all published digital content. Based on keyword goals and upcoming initiatives, propose blog titles, and once written, perform on-page optimization, including title, meta and alt tags, cross-linking, and insertion of appropriate Calls to Action (CTAs) where needed. Oversee regular review of digital content with subject matter experts to ensure content remains accurate, timely and relevant. Support content publishing across all digital communication channels, as needed.
  • Ensure timelines and deadlines are met by working with project managers and strategists. Use excellent judgement, attention to detail, and solid practices for digital testing for optimization.
  • Stays on top of digital industry trends and best practices.
