The College of Education (COE) at Butler University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track lecturer in counselor education with an expected start date of August 2023. This is an on-campus, Indianapolis-based position. The successful candidate will have the following qualities:
  • Experience and expertise in the practice and teaching of mental health counseling.
  • Demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating inequitable outcomes, removing barriers, and creating inclusive conditions for individuals and communities regardless of any predictive identities.
  • Alignment with the COE Shared Commitments.
  • Ability to support learners from a variety of backgrounds with strong, student-centered, inclusive instructional methods in a fully online format.
Minimum requirements: Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling or a closely related field by contract start date; experience and excellence in the practice of mental health counseling; experience and excellence in providing instruction and supervision to graduate students in counseling; evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational settings; and experience working with students and clients from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Preferred requirements: Doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision from a CACREP accredited program; experience and excellence in school counseling; knowledge and skill related to teaching and learning in a fully online format; and expertise and interest in developing new courses related to addictions, neuro-counseling, and psychopharmacology. We are particularly interested in applicants from identity groups currently underrepresented in the field of counseling.

Expectations: Teach 12-credit hours of courses each semester across the fully online MS in Mental Health Counseling and MS in School Counseling programs; in partnership with our online program management provider, create and/or adapt courses for online delivery; participate in service to the COE and University, including as an academic advisor to graduate students in counseling.
