Supervise laboratories and assure the preparation of materials and solutions for chemistry teaching laboratory sections as per laboratory preparation guide manuals. This includes managing the collection, storage and removal of hazardous water produced in the labs.

Prepare and assure the preparation of materials and solutions for chemistry teaching laboratory sections as per laboratory preparation guide manuals. Deliver and assure the delivery of materials and solutions to the laboratories and manage the return of these materials and solutions from laboratories back to the stock room upon completion of the laboratory activities. Manage the collection, storage, and removal of hazardous waste produced in the labs. Arrange for the laboratories to be cleaned between experiments.

Watch the chemistry stockroom window or make sure that student assistants are minding the window, and helping students and faculty with materials and equipment as needed. This entails checking out items to students that come to the window and then receiving these same items at the end of the laboratory period. It also involves charging students for broken items and keeping a record of these charges (this activity must be coordinated with the administrative support coordinator in the department office). Facilitate the clean up of any chemical or hazardous spills that may occur according to approved procedures.

Provide lead work direction, train, and schedule federal work-study students (FWS) and other student assistants hired to help prepare laboratories and to staff the stockroom window. The stockroom must be staffed during all course laboratories that are in session. This entails training them on certain preparation procedures and other procedures commonly required in the stockroom and answering questions. It also includes training and obeyance of all safety regulations and working with the Environmental Health & Safety office in this regard.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned.
    Or
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
    Or
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to plan, organize, and schedule activities; ability to operate technical equipment related to the discipline; ability to maintain records; ability to adjust and perform simple maintenance of technical and scientific equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles of performing support services; knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques related to the discipline and the curriculum; knowledge of the materials and supplies in the curriculum and the curriculum and their uses.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: minimum $4,180 - maximum $4,389 monthly.

    Classification Salary Range: minimum $4,180 - maximum $7,254 monthly.
