Position Summary:

The Career Services Director manages all career services—career coaching professional development and job opportunities for students and alumni. Responsible for seeking out, creating, and maintaining relationships with the employer community, admissions representatives, student services, school faculty and the alumni department to meet the career needs of our students and alumni. Further, the Director provides career services’ leadership and direction for the National University System (NUS), establishes departmental priorities, and sets department goals. Specifically, the Director advances NUS’ strategic goals through (1) the oversight and implementation of the job portal, Handshake, ) and the provision of ongoing training and (2) implementation and execution of virtual career fairs, workshops and employer information sessions.

The Director will systematically court new relationships from key employers statewide, industry areas that are relevant to National University Programs. A significant portion of the responsibility involves calling on both existing relationships and creating new corporate recruiter relationships to solicit job and internship openings, discuss project or consulting-based needs, and determining parameters for internships. The goal is to leverage those relationships to increase the pipeline of high-quality opportunities for students and alumni to enhance the visibility and reputation of National’s degree programs as a sought-after school from which to recruit.

Essential Functions:

· Develop and implement a strategic plan, with clear measurable goals in conjunction with Alumni Relations and Student Services.

· Build and sustain the National University Career Services community that would lead to employment and job market success of students and alumni.

· Provide NUS career services’ oversight in the following key areas: (1) job portal, Handshake, and the provision of ongoing training for the University community. and (2) implementation and execution of Virtual Career Fairs.

· Incorporate NACE 1st Destination Survey into SOAR, and collect placement, salary, and employment data according at the point of graduation. Develop and execute specialized program targeting students/new grads who are identified in survey as seeking employment.

· Lead all new initiatives including career fairs, outreach program offerings, and collaborative projects with other NU departments, faculty, and regional teams.

· Prepare and manage the annual budget for Career Services.

· Serve National University as a liaison to the business community and pursue development and sponsorship opportunities with them.

· Create e-mail campaign to reach out to HR contacts from major employers

· Contact and establish relationships with all area recruiters and actively promote National University students for positions

· Provide career coaching and planning for all students and alumni.

· Oversee the creation, implementation and analysis of a student/alumni career needs assessment.

· In conjunction with Alumni Relations and Student Services, ensure that Career Services hosts professional networking events, career-related workshops and mentor programs to engage students, alumni and working professionals.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Hire, train and develop up to 6 - 8 staff members


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Minimum of seven (7) years related experience required

  • Five (5) years of leadership experience preferred

  • Experience in higher education preferred

  • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications

Technical / Functional Skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, Computer skills in MS Office and Handshake job portal and other career-related technologies. Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Skills in educational and career counseling.

  • Knowledge of employment trends and current job market information.

  • Knowledge of resume construction, job search strategies, career resources and internet resources.

  • Corporate relations experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of virtual career service tools and services preferred.

  • Familiarization with career assessment tools.

Physical Demands/Environment:

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal. The work is performed in an office environment.
