Position Purpose: A CNO promotes the mission, values, and vision of Aurora University. They champion the interests of Aurora University students, faculty, staff, and alumni as well as the welfare of the institution as a whole. A CNO provides leadership and administrative oversight to a school within the university at the Aurora campus and George Williams College location. A CNO coordinates the learning outcomes assessment program. The nursing program is overseen by the CNO in collaboration with their Assistant Deans, Chairs, and Directors. The CNO reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health and Sciences for all graduate and undergraduate programs.

  • Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops and implements an annual unit-operating plan that is consistent with the strategic plan of the university as a whole.
  • Prepares and disseminates an annual report documenting unit operating plan outcomes.
  • Provides academic leadership for programs within their school.
  • Advises senior academic leadership team on all matters pertaining to their school.
  • Provides leadership for Department Chairs, Directors, and Assistant Deans in the development, implementation, and revision of undergraduate and graduate programs in consultation with senior administrative colleagues.
  • Supports recruitment, retention, and graduation rate goals within their school.
  • Works with the Dean of the College of Health and Sciences, Assistant Dean, Director, and Chair to organize the academic unit in an efficient manner.
  • Works with the Dean of the College of Health and Sciences, Assistant Dean, Director, and Chair to develop the budget and manage expenditures.
  • Encourages faculty and staff engagement in the life of the university community.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervision of facilities, equipment, and supplies for the school, program, or function.
  • Provides oversight for existing curriculum.
  • Ensures that catalog and web content for all programs is accurate and compelling. Collaborates with colleagues and supervisors to recruit, orient, and mentor faculty who demonstrate the potential necessary to succeed in all aspects of their work at Aurora University.
  • Assures compilation of the annual performance evaluation processes by faculty and staff.
  • Provides leadership to the Assistant Dean, Director, and Chair in recruiting, hiring, developing, and evaluating faculty.
  • Works with the director of faculty development to support ongoing faculty development.
  • Provides leadership in the coordination of all aspects of the SON learning outcomes assessment program.
  • Works with the Assistant Dean, Director, and Chair to manage the processes related to program accreditation, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Reviews student petitions (requests for independent studies, course by special arrangement, course substitutions, etc.)
  • Advocates for members of various constituency groups and mediates conflicts as appropriate.
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues across campus regarding student concerns and behaviors.


  • Essential Job Requirements:

    Education:
    • Registered Nurse, with a graduate degree in nursing, preferably a doctoral degree.
    Experience:
    • Successful leadership experience in an academic setting: an understanding of and skill at curriculum development and program evaluation; excellent teaching skills.
    Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal), teamwork and collaboration, and conflict resolution skills are essential.
    Special Requirements:
    • The CNO will have compiled strong teaching, scholarly, and service records earlier in their career. They will possess a commitment to the mission of the university as a whole and will be an accomplished administrator. They may possess an underlying faculty appointment at the rank of tenured associate professor or higher. They will possess an earned terminal degree in their fields of expertise. The CNO serves in this administration leadership role on a one-year appointment, subject to evaluation and renewal.
