Job Summary:
The primary responsibilities of the Associate System Administrator – VDI include the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and support of the Columbia Colleges virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). In addition, this position will partner with our End User Support Field Engineers to provide general desktop support services for the college community.

Essential Functions:
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Technology Services Department.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Attend work timely and on a regular basis during established hours; work additional hours as business necessitates.
  • Provide guidance and Tier 2 support for the Columbia College virtual desktop infrastructure (Currently VMWare Horizon).
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot VDI images
  • Build, configure and deploy upgrades to our VDI deployed end-user business applications
  • Oversee VDI information security support by regularly patching VDI images and app stacks to secure the environment and improve our user experience.
  • Ensure the resilience of our virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Serve as escalation point for our Helpdesk to provide VDI support.
  • Support projects and initiatives, as assigned.
  • Provide general second-tier computer support to Columbia College end-user community.
Position reports to: Director of End User Support

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience/certificates
  • General knowledge of products to support VDI users (Windows 10, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure-AD, GPO Policies)
  • General knowledge of Windows servers, including OS upgrades, VMware Vcenter and ESX system support.
  • Ability to create system diagrams and documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, good judgment and ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients and users.
  • Experience troubleshooting and using Windows 10.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting printers, scanners and other peripherals.
  • Experience troubleshooting Windows operating systems.

Special Requirements (if any):
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as needed to support the VDI environment.

Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.

In: Any Related Field or Evidence of Continuing Education

Preferred Level of Education: Bachelor
In: Computer Science or Related Field
