The Division of Behavioral Medicine is seeking a Research Program Coordinator who will coordinate the implementation of one or more research protocols, as well as ongoing administrative processes related to these studies. The Research Program Coordinator will screen and enroll research subjects, and provide continuous monitoring of these studies ensuring that all protocols are followed and status reporting, billing, and other regulatory components are performed correctly. This position involves working directly with research participants to systematically conduct standardized sleep, behavioral, and psychological assessments and maintain records of testing. A variety of ambulatory sleep assessment devices will be used, including actigraphy, ambulatory sleep EEG monitoring, home sleep apnea testing (HSAT), etc. This position will also involve coordination with other staff to ensure these assessments are conducted at specific time points. The Research Program Coordinator position involves using this equipment to study human subjects 50% of the time.

The Research Program Coordinator will manage ClinicalTrials.gov registration and assist in the preparation of funding agency progress reports. The position will work to ensure the timely accomplishment of study recruitment goals and adherence to study procedures, as well as ensure appropriate and timely completion of IRB paperwork. The RPC will be responsible for coordinating with the Johns Hopkins Clinical Trials Coordinating Center to compile information for annual progress reports to the IRB and relevant funding agencies under the supervision of study principal investigators and the laboratory manager.

The position involves frequent/regular contact with research subjects and a variety of medical professionals. The position may involve travel to the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine campus, the University of Maryland Baltimore campus, and/or Helping Up Mission in Baltimore, MD. The position may involve the supervision of unpaid volunteers and student employees performing data entry. The RPC reports directly to the laboratory manager or study investigator.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Screen candidates to determine the eligibility of potential volunteers for the project(s).
  • Schedule subjects for research visits and study procedures according to written protocol.
  • Coordinate staff and resources required for study procedures.
  • Explain study procedures to participants and obtain informed consent.
  • Collect, manage, and conduct data-related activities. Ensure completion of study measures and instruments. Ensure timely data entry, and check for accuracy and proper storage of data.
  • Use software to manage, track and report the flow of subjects through protocols.
  • Handle relevant subject sleep data and follow protocol requirements.
  • Work closely with the data manager to assist in quality control procedures.
  • Prepare summary reports for research meetings as scheduled
  • Coordinate and notify study team members of study meetings and tasks needing completion
  • Perform administrative and clerical tasks as needed, including ordering supplies.
  • Ensure that studies are conducted according to all applicable regulations and guidelines and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specified in the protocol manuals, identify areas for improvement and direct implementation of changes.
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods.
  • Able to reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required, able to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the entire hand(s) or arm(s), e.g., use of a computer keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior research experience with human subjects research is strongly preferred.
