Academic Services Officer I/II Student Academic Affairs & Global Engagement
We are searching for an experienced Academic Services Officer I/II Student Academic Affairs & Global Engagement at our Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):
The ASO I/II (Program Coordinator, Study Abroad) position is responsible for the development and management of a portfolio of credit-bearing study abroad programs in multiple countries on both exchange and faculty-led programs. This position is responsible for coordinating program design, budget development and monitoring, researching program vendor services and contract negotiation, student recruitment and advising, application review/processing, pre-departure orientations and meetings, and assisting in coordinating responses to study abroad health and safety matters.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage a varied portfolio of study abroad programs in multiple countries.
Proactively collaborate with faculty, academic advisors and related departmental staff to ensure academic integration of program content and to educate the University community about study abroad.
Work directly with faculty to develop and implement programs, coordinating closely with other key constituents to ensure academically robust programs that are both student-friendly and in compliance with University policy and industry standards.
Advise faculty on program proposal procedures, recruitment, outreach, application review, logistics, policies, finances, and emergency management.
Coordinate periodic program evaluations and reviews on a set schedule; recommend off-cycle reviews as safety, security, or other emerging concerns warrant.
Recruit, advise, select, and orient students with program portfolio.
Develop presentations and materials relevant to program portfolio including pre-departure orientations and materials, and classroom visits.
Manage student program participant needs, including student incidents while abroad; coordinate with University and on-site staff to provide timely and appropriate response to incidents; manage emergencies in collaboration with the Associate Director of Study Abroad.
Serve as a resource, liaison, and point of expertise regarding study abroad programs and policies.
Travel within the US and internationally to represent the University if needed.
Visa processing support and coordination for programs.
Responding to program-related inquiries from students, parents, and University faculty and staff.
Inputting and maintaining the integrity of data in Terra Dotta for all assigned programs and participants.
Develop work plans to accomplish program goals and objectives and monitors progress toward their achievement.
Plan and execute the Study Abroad Photo Contest, Study Abroad Fair and other assigned events.
Organizes materials and staff coverage for several University resource fair events.
Covers reception as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience and Abilities :
Bachelor’s degree required for ASO I.
Master’s degree required for ASO II.
Experience as a participant, organizer, or instructor in study abroad programs and/or living abroad
2-5 years’ experience coordinating faculty-led programs and/or exchange programs
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, parents, faculty and staff in the U.S. and abroad
Effective organizational skills
Excellent oral and written communications
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate effectively and enthusiastically in a team
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Desired Experience
Experience interacting with and supporting diverse populations
High level proficiency in a second language
2 years’ experience working in Terra Dotta Systems
Experience marketing a product or programs within higher education
Strong presentation skills
