Business Manager - KUCO

Position Overview: Administers the business affairs of a department or significant unit. Responsible for financial management, reporting activities, personnel administration, and management policy for the division or college. Develop budgets for projects within a department and prepares financial analysis and status reports. Directs control of approved budget, including collections, custody, disbursement, accounting, and audition of all funds. Provide information and interpretation to faculty, staff, and students.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:
This position manages KUCO’s day-to-day office administration and ensure the financial success of the department by:
  • Managing the daily financial activities of the department, which include underwriting invoices, membership contributions, collections, reconciliations, requisitions, purchasing and budget management.
  • Responsible for creating non-commercial underwriting copy, public service announcements and coordinating the on-air scheduling of KUCO announcement and membership messages.
  • Provides monthly or as requested financial reports for the KUCO General Manager with forecasting measures.
  • Assists in preparing documents for university financial reports, annual accounting audits, budget planning and technology assets.
  • Monitors and proactively seeks to develops content to generate positive exposure of KUCO through established marketing channels including emails, newsletters, direct mail, website, social media and digital devices.
  • Assists with KUCO website development and maintenance to ensure consistency of branding.
  • Engages with listeners, vendors, university associates as well as internal and external community members positively and productively through written correspondence, phone calls, emails, and in-person interactions.
  • Facilitates the development, creation of strategies, tactics, messaging and participates in departmental events, fundraising activities, membership drives and marketing campaigns.
  • Develops and implements systems and processes to establish, maintain and store departmental records, databases and documents in appropriate digital forms.
  • Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations.
  • Continually update skills and knowledge relative to the position.
  • Assists the KUCO General Manager with account reconciliations, purchasing, and budget management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the KUCO General Manager.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, marketing, or related field or with a non-business degree relevant work experience that provides budgetary knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred :
Experience in non-profit fundraising and/or membership drives. Prior experience with radio traffic and programming software. Knowledge of accounting principles and experience with budget management. Experience and knowledge in developing non-commercial underwriting following FCC guidelines.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask and work without supervision.
  • Ability to communicate with the public on a daily basis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, human relations, public relations, and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Experience working effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Accounting and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • Excellent proof-reading skills.
