The CACREP-accredited on-ground clinical mental health counseling program in the Department of Leadership and Professional Studies in the College of Education at Seattle University is seeking justice-centered counselor educators who are committed to advancing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the counseling profession beginning September 2023. The clinical mental health counseling program is seeking to fill the following positions: two open-rank tenure track (TT) positions with opportunities for program leadership. The counseling program in the College of Education has three program tracks: (1) on-ground CMHC, (2) online CMHC, and (3) school counseling. Each program focuses on preparing emerging counselors to be social change agents and advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The program holds the distinction of being the first CACREP-accredited graduate program in the Seattle area, is a leader in preparing future change agents in counseling and is CACREP-accredited through 2026. These positions require faculty to teach on-campus at Seattle University.
Responsibilities: Tenure track faculty are responsible for advancing justice-centered teaching, scholarship, and service to the program, the College, the university, and to the counseling profession at the national level. Faculty in the on-ground program teach graduate level counseling courses across the eight CACREP core areas in mental health counseling and provide support to the program.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to the University's and College of Education’s mission, vision, and values. The College emphasizes engagement in teaching, research, and service that contributes to building and sustaining equitable, diverse, and inclusive communities. In concert with our Jesuit mission and commitment to diversity and inclusion, candidates must demonstrate an understanding of components of a Jesuit education and its alignment with the counseling program’s social justice mission.
Minimum Requirements: A doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program. Demonstrated commitment to social justice. Actively engaged in the counseling profession. Experience teaching and supervising graduate counseling students. Candidates for tenure-track positions should have demonstrated a commitment to, or potential for, developing a scholarship agenda.
Start Date: Mid-year and/or September 2023, 9-month appointments
Preferred: Actively engaged with justice-centered engaged teaching, scholarship, and service.
