- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience coordinating computer lab activities, including developing and enforcing lab policies and procedures
- Ability to hire, train, schedule, and supervise student workers
- Experience with PC and MAC hardware and software
- Technical and mechanical knowledge of and experience with installing, updating, maintaining, and supporting computer hardware, software, operating systems, equipment, LAN, and other interconnectivity issues.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other productivity software
- Demonstrated decision-making skills, able to prioritize effectively, and work proactively
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to complete tasks
- Ability to develop departmental technical reports, inventory, usage statistics, and hardware/software purchasing and budgeting
- Ability to assist faculty, staff, and students with updating and maintaining computer hardware and software
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with others and to translate technical information into layman’s terms for Texas State faculty, staff, and students
- Experience publishing in a web environment using content management systems, social media applications, graphic design software, and video editing software
- A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree
- Experience working in higher education
- Hiring, training, and supervisory experience
- Experience with Canvas or other online learning management systems
- Experience with Texas State programs including SAP Portal, GATO, Calico, TSP Tools, and Banner
- Knowledge of database management
Responsible for providing technical support and direction to departmental faculty, staff, and students of the university.
Job Duties
- Coordinate activities of the department’s open computer/language lab and film library.
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student workers for the computer lab and film library.
- Develop and enforce computer lab and film library policies and procedures.
- Provide technical support and direction to departmental faculty, staff, and students.
- Oversee and document the computer refresh process.
- Acquire and install technology and equipment in classrooms and offices, as needed.
- Assist faculty in maintenance, repair, and purchase of technology and equipment.
- Oversee the set-up of new faculty/staff equipment and disposal of old equipment.
- Plan and implement hardware and software upgrades as needed.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues with faculty/staff office computers.
- Maintain inventory of all department assets and work with Materials Management to complete yearly inventory checks.
- Manage departmental copying and printing for faculty offices and faculty workroom.
- Maintain detailed records on paper usage and other statistics.
- Maintain departmental LAN and device interconnectivity.
- Assist departmental website committee and administrator with graphic design, website maintenance, and social media.
- Lead faculty development workshops on using Canvas and other tools for teaching and research, as needed.
- Assist with technology at departmental events and activities outside normal work hours, including set-up, monitoring, troubleshooting, filming, and/or recording.
- Assist faculty and staff with the design and production of promotional materials.
- Stay up-to-date on university policies relating to technology and information security.
- Work closely with other university units to ensure timely resolutions to technical issues.
