The Financial Aid Counselor I will provide support to the director while providing quality customer service in all aspects of financial aid customer service for the delivery of federal, state aid, institutional, and private aid to NU students; provide student/parent counseling and assistance and support for the financial aid team effort among all key stakeholders (i.e., FA Office, Admissions, Business Office, Registrar, Finance, etc.) in awarding and payment of financial aid; and assist in all aspects of applying for institutional, federal, state, and private sources of aid are delivered/processed in a timely and compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities:

· Support and understand Northwood’s Code of Ethics, Values, and Outcomes

· Support and understand the departments role in meeting enrollment and retention goals

· Support admissions efforts to recruit and matriculate students (including orientation)

· Front desk support (back up for phones, email, mail, and walk-in traffic)

· Counsel students (ADP, Traditional, and Graduate) regarding eligibility, application processing, and deadlines

· Monitor student with outstanding application requirements and provide notification as needed

o Incomplete or conflicting information follow up, tracking, notification, and reminders

o Verification documents, loan requirements (entrance and/or exit counseling), etc

o Consortium contracts with other schools

· Provide efficient and timely file review, need analysis, verification, awarding, and posting of all types of financial aid (i.e., scholarships, grants, loans, work study, book vouchers, etc.) from all sources (i.e., federal, state, institutional, outside, etc.)

o Produce and route processing sheets in ImageNow workflow

o Monitor queues for accurate and timely processing

· Collect, process, and route student employment, bookstore, award, and other documents/records as needed

· Monitor web and social media sites for accuracy

· Provide community outreach/FAFSA nights as needed

· Assist in meeting internal and external reporting deadlines

· Monitor and report state aid to the applicable agencies

· Monitor enrollment at census date and adjust aid if applicable

· Special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

· Have a Bachelor’s degree

· Have one to three years of financial aid experience

· Computer, analytical and interpersonal skills

· Have excellent communication skills

· Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, effectively and efficiently
