The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Art Department invites applications for the full-time, tenure-track Art Faculty position. This position is located in River Forest, IL and has a start date of August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Teaches a variety of art courses which may include 3d studio art, Ceramics, Senior Capstone Portfolio class, and Art History curriculum in the honors program
  • Advises students in areas of art and undergraduate academics
  • Enhances undergraduate curriculum of the Art major and minor, Pre-Art Therapy major, K-12 Art Education major, and Graphic Design minor
  • Identifies interdisciplinary opportunities for students across departments and majors
  • Learns and utilizes new computer design programs and platforms for administrative and teaching purposes as needed
  • Assists with curatorial projects and art events
  • Manages art club activities and student leaders
  • Maintains studio equipment and supply inventory
  • Stays current in the field of art through active participation in the development of new work, professional exhibitions, presentations, residencies, projects, events and/or publications
  • Participates in professional organizations, conferences and professional meetings
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Skill Sets:

  • Demonstrated substantial artist portfolio and exhibition record
  • Demonstrated exemplary portfolio of student work
  • Ability to teach art and develop curriculum (ideally 3d studio art, ceramics, senior capstone portfolio class, art history) at the university or college level
  • Knowledge of graphic design, art education, and art therapy; additional specialization in one of these fields is preferred
  • Ability to manage the care and preservation of works of art
  • Strong management skills in directing art club activities and student leaders
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated commitment to maintaining studio equipment and supply inventory
  • Exhibits a service mentality toward all stakeholders
  • All communication with stakeholders is effective, professional, accurate, and timely
  • Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information

Minimum Experience Required:

A minimum of 3 years of art teaching experience at the university or college level is required

Education Requirements:

  • M.F.A. or terminal degree in the field of art from an accredited institution is required
  • Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
