Assistant or Associate Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management

Position Available: August 1, 2023

The Department of Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management (RHTM), in the College of Education, Healthand Human Sciences (CEHHS) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor with an emphasis on Hospitality and Tourism Management. This is a tenure track, nine-month position with a salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) using diverse modalities (in-person, hybrid, or online).
  • Conduct research and build scholarships that can complement the expertise of the department and college.
  • Actively participate in graduate education and mentor doctoral students.  Provide service to the department, college, and the university.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate in Hospitality Management or a closely related discipline at time of application
  •  A minimum of three years of teaching and research experience in hospitality and tourism management
  • Evidence of developing a cohesive research agenda in hospitality and tourism management
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with doctoral student mentorship
  • Securing external funding through writing grants and other sources
  •  Managerial experience in the hospitality or tourism industry for instructional effectiveness
  • Research expertise in sustainability in hospitality and tourism management

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An earned doctorate in Hospitality Management or a closely related discipline at time of application
  • Evidence of a cohesive research agenda in hospitality and tourism management
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Successful mentoring of doctoral students
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:

The HTM program is a growing unit housed in the RHTM department that values diversity and collegiality. The RHTM department offers undergraduate majors in HTM and Retail and Merchandising Management (RMM), a PhD program tailored to individual career goals with a concentration in either HTM or Retail and Consumer Sciences; as well as innovative student experiential learning institutes, including the UT Culinary Institute, the Rocky Top Institute, and the UT Creamery. The UTK was founded in 1794 and is one of the oldest public universities in the country. It is the flagship campus for the UT system, a participating institution of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities. The UTK is designated as a Doctoral University with Very High Research Activity by the Carnegie Foundation and has earned the Elective Classification of Community Engagement also by the Carnegie Foundation. The UT system has marked three consecutive years of record growth in undergraduate and graduate enrollments and received excellent research and state funding.
