Job Summary

The Division of Workforce Partnerships is looking for a part-time Career Advisor in the Career Services Office to work closely with Career Services Staff to promote student and alumni access and engagement with all aspects of career development, including preparation and readiness, with major attention to career development and self-assessment activities. The Career Advisor advises and supports students/alumni through the career planning, exploration and decision-making processes and assists them to analyze their interests, values, skills and personality styles.
Additionally, the Career Advisor helps develop career goals during their academic and professional careers. This position also assists to develop outreach activities and programs designed to attract CCRI students and alumni to become aware of and participate in, on-campus or virtually, a wide array of services the CCRI Career Services Office has to offer. This position will engage campus partners to support the mission of the department. The Career Advisor will be actively involved in student outreach including marketing career services in classrooms, presenting career workshops and programs and engaging students in digital technology offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Advise, educate and coach students/alumni on career topics including but not limited to, major selection, self-assessment, career exploration and career decisions with the goal to build lifelong career management skills and prepare students to be career ready for entering the workforce and/or continuing their educational plans
  • Administer self-assessment tools as a basis for assisting to choose an academic/career pathway. These can include, but not limited to, Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, Career Key and My Majors
  • Interpret assessment results when needed and review results with students to assist them to generate options and formulate action steps toward career goals
  • Research and recommend resources to provide students with career, occupational and employment information such as RIDLT, Occupational Outlook Handbook, ONET, etc, as well as provide information on experiential education options such as CCRI Co-op programs
  • Coordinate and implement career development workshops for an assigned campus including unique populations and under-represented groups
  • Be comfortable carrying out advisement appointments utilizing a variety of modalities including individual appointments, virtual meetings, classroom presentations, group settings, and workshops
  • Develop relationships with campus groups including faculty, student services, student clubs/organizations among others, to build interest and engagement for Career Services offerings
  • Become familiar with CCRI’s Pathway model to ensure student preparation for careers in alignment with career goals and majors
  • Demonstrate commitment to the CCRI Mission and its diverse student populations
  • Assist staff with various campus events, career fairs and Pathways events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and an interest in career advising and student affairs are preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong professional relationships and work collaboratively with groups
  • Experience working with a diverse student population in a professional capacity
  • Ability to work effectively with both a team and independently; able to prioritize duties and be adaptable to change
  • Strong commitment to CCRI’s students and mission
  • Proficient in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office Suite applications
