Job Summary

The Video Producer/Editor oversees the planning and execution of public media content including the production of video stories, promos, underwriting spots and special projects.

WGCU is Southwest Florida’s source for PBS and NPR. A member-supported service of Florida Gulf Coast University, WGCU provides educational programming that inspires, informs and engages our community. Serving all or part of 12 counties in south and Southwest Florida, with five distinct digital TV channels, two FM radio channels, two HD radio channels, and multiple websites, WGCU delivers national and international programming, and develops, produces and delivers relevant, informative and educational local programs to the region.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Performs advanced video editing and creative skills to create and enhance storytelling, communications and marketing content.
  • Works independently or with content producers to acquire HD to 4K video with creative lighting techniques to capture broadcast quality footage and audio.
  • Creates graphics for multiplatform content utilizing motion graphics templates (MOGRTs) to produce graphic elements.
  • Produces projects in entirety (conceptualize/create/edit/finalize) for varying platforms (TV/Digital/Social Media)
  • Translates organizational or client goals into strategic media deliverables.
  • Assists with program promotion both on-line and off the air.
  • Oversees studio set-ups, including sets, lighting, and sound.
  • Oversees the lighting and audio requirements of selected field, contract, and studio projects.
  • Assists in maintaining operating budgets for projects.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.
Other Job Duties:
  • May supervise student workers, interns, or OPS employees as assigned.
  • Participates in on-air fundraising.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Four years of professional, full time experience in television broadcasting.
  • Experience with producing, scripting, and editing long format documentaries.
  • Video/audio capture - Basic camera techniques/principles and matching audio.
  • Proficiency in the use of motion graphics templates (MOGRTs) to produce dynamic graphic elements.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite w/emphasis on Premiere Pro, After Effects, & Photoshop.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Remote pilot (drone) certification.
  • Four years of professional, full time experience in television production.
  • Directing multi-camera productions and/or video board switching
  • Audio board knowledge.
  • Experience in current digital video trends and production of videos tailored for social media platforms (e.g. YouTube, Instagram Stories, TikTok).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by professional organizations and/or governing agencies.
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in current digital audio editing and general desktop software applications.
  • Skilled in researching topics for news and interview broadcasts utilizing various resources.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.
  • Ability to use microphones, portable recording devices, and video studio production equipment.
