Job Summary:

This position will work with a team of chemists in the laboratory of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP), as part of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH), to provide robust precipitation and air chemistry data to a diverse group of scientists and entities across the nation.

The successful candidate will perform routine analysis on thousands of precipitation and passive air samples per year with minimal supervision. Work in the laboratory involves the operation and maintenance of flow injection analyzers (FIA), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), and ion chromatography (IC) instrumentation. Personal initiative, independence, strong technical skills, and collaboration are essential in this role.

With emerging atmospheric pollutants on the rise, there is great interest from the scientific community to quantify these pollutants in order to better understand their impacts on the environment and human health. In this position the candidate will have the opportunity to work on research projects as is needed and as time allows. Collaboration with NADP stakeholders is key during research projects and both oral and written presentations will be required.

Primary work hours are 7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

For the Chem I: Chemistry college-level laboratory course work required. Analytical laboratory experience preferred.
For the Chem II: Science college-level laboratory course work required. Three years analytical laboratory experience required. 5+ years analytical laboratory experience preferred. Previous experience working in an environmental laboratory setting is highly desired. Experience with FIA, ICP-OES, and IC instrumentation preferred.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
