Job Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Student Affairs for Health & Wellbeing, the Diversity and Inclusion Director for Health and Wellbeing will partner with University Health Services and Recreation and Wellbeing stakeholders to advance the Health and Wellbeing theme areas inclusion, equity, and diversity (IED) IED strategic plan; develop strategies to build greater diversity among the staff, and increase staff retention and engagement; and provide expert consultation, resources, programs, and initiatives that improve climate and both educate and promote inclusion, equity, and diversity as core values of Student Affairs; and manage diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice related trainings and programs. This position has the potential to supervise direct reports.

The inaugural D&I Director will prioritize and champion IED to bring about the change necessary to create and maintain an anti-racist organization. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, results-oriented individual who has successful experience leading IED initiatives and driving organizational change in a complex environment with multiple constituencies. Minimum qualifications include an advanced degree, subject matter expertise in IED, and 2 years of relevant experience.

1.Provide leadership to University Health Services and Rec Well to develop and implement strategic initiatives that address identified impediments and promote Health and Wellbeing's mission for promote, protect, and restore health and wellbeing via inclusion, equity, and diversity, and creating and maintaining a climate that promotes the achievement and personal development of all in the Health and Wellbeing community. Serve on the Associate Vice Chancellor's leadership team; collaborate with and provide guidance and recommendations to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Directors, and their leadership teams on matters of inclusion, equity, and diversity. Serve as the AVC's representative for diversity-related matters on campus. In collaboration with the leadership of Office of Student Affairs, advance, implement and execute the various components of the University's Diversity priorities and plans.

2.Assess, create, implement, deliver, and review diversity-related policies and procedures that support staff programming and planning to foster a diverse and inclusive community. Develop accountability measures and establish benchmarks for diversity-related initiatives across Health and Wellbeing. Work with Health and Wellbeing (Rec Well and UHS) units and departments and lead Health and Wellbeing¿s Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity Committees efforts to implement programs that enhance the ways in which inclusion, equity, and diversity is fostered at each level within Health and Wellbeing. In partnership with the AVC, Directors, and their leadership teams, provide support, guidance, and recommendations for recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff to increase the diversity of our community.

3.Lead and develop Health and Wellbeing's Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity Strategic Plan, and champion the vision and plan to lead to its acceptance and implementation across the theme area.

4.In partnership with the leadership teams, co-sponsor educational experiences, curricular and co-curricular, that foster student learning.

5.Create and provide high-quality professional development to Health and Wellbeing staff on diversity-related topics that may include inclusive teaching, student learning, climate, implicit bias, and cultural responsiveness.

6.Build relationships across the Health and Wellbeing and campus, and with community partners to enhance climate and culture in Health and Wellbeing. Collaborate with trained campus mediators when acute differences of understanding need to be bridged.

7.Hire, train, and potentially supervise staff. Evaluate staff by providing ongoing feedback and conducting annual performance reviews and resolve personnel issues.

Responsibilities:

Leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the division's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed.
  • 10% Serves as a liaison between the division and enforcement agencies and represents the division to the external community, organizations, and agencies
  • 40% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes divisional objectives to ensure appropriate allocation of resources
  • 25% Partners with institutional leaders, faculty, students, staff, and internal and external constituency groups to ensure programming supports the division's values and strategic goals and assesses and monitors program effectiveness
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Develops and audits the unit budget, monitors financial activities for grant funding
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and diversity objectives
