Salary for Announcement

The salary ranges for this position are $80,000 – $85,000 at Assistant Professor rank and $90,000 – $95,000 at Associate Professor rank. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Department of Computer Sciences at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2023. The Department of Computer Sciences is focused upon providing an outstanding learning environment for our undergraduate students that includes opportunities for undergraduate research. Therefore, a commitment to high-quality teaching and student success is paramount.

The mission of the Department of Computer Sciences is to provide a complete learning environment in which students from a diverse urban population can gain, at the undergraduate level, a thorough understanding of current theories and practices in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Probability and Statistics. The Department fulfills its mission by pursuing excellence in teaching and learning as its primary objective in order to prepare students for successful careers, post-graduate education and lifelong education. Our Computer Science B.S. degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET .

MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups. Our Fall 2021 student population consists of over 57% first-generation students and over 50% students of color. We are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in downtown Denver. As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today’s college students. The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals students.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate must have the ability to effectively:
  • Teach 9 hours per semester of undergraduate courses in an ABET accredited computer science program, including evenings on a consistent basis
  • Teach a broad range of lower and upper division undergraduate computer science courses
  • Advise a diverse student body through the academic program
  • Participate in course and program development
  • Pursue scholarly and professional activities appropriate for the undergraduate teaching mission of the university
  • Perform university and professional service
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair
  • Work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of a diverse, urban population
Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Computer Science or related field completed by August 1, 2023

Preferred Qualifications

A successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Demonstrated commitment and effectiveness in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated commitment and effectiveness in scholarly work
  • Experience working with, and sensitivity to, the needs of a diverse, urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners
