Position Summary
The NMHU–BioPACIFIC MIP PREM represents a collaboration between New Mexico Highlands University ( NMHU ) and BioPACIFIC Materials Innovation Platform ( MIP ) at University of California, Santa Barbara ( UCSB ) and University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA ) in design, synthesis and applications of metal-organic hybrid biomaterials.
An appointee in this position will be responsible for chemical synthesis and characterization of organic-inorganic hybrid materials including but not limited to metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and synthetic perovskites. Characterization of synthesized materials will include diffraction, spectroscopic, magnetic and thermal characterization and other methods.
An appointee should supervise both undergraduate and graduate students. He/she should present obtained results in form of research conference presentations and publications.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct research in the appropriate field of materials science and chemistry, publish findings in professional journals, and apply for extramural funding;
• Maintain regular attendance on campus; hold office hours as required; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Materials Science ( ABD will be considered) with Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics, or related field; publications in organic synthesis and characterization, good written and oral communication skills; experience in mentoring undergraduate students in research projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong publication records. Knowledge of materials modeling and desire to collaborate with colleagues applying machine learning and artificial intelligence methods to predictions of materials structure – properties relations. Strong work ethic and motivation to lead multiple research programs.
