Job Description:
  • Shares the responsibilities for developing, implementing, and coordinating activities related to the Victim Services Program. Activities will service the entire university community (students, faculty and staff). Additional responsibilities include assuring that 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week support and services are available for victims of actual or threatened violence, including but not limited to battery, assault, sexual batter, (date rape, acquaintance rape, stranger rape), attempted sexual battery, and domestic violence. Also assists victims of harassment such as stalking, hate crime, etc.
  • Informs and assist victims as needed in following criminal and administrative proceedings. Meet the immediate needs of victims including transportation, safe housing, immediate medical needs and academic assistance. Assure that a rape crisis counselor is on call to meet victims of sexual battery at treatment center and informing her or him of options, rights, available services and provide immediate counseling support. The same on-call crisis counseling will be available of other types of violence.
  • Shares responsibility for identifying and obtaining appropriate training for volunteer crisis counselors who will provide assistance to victims, following protocols as appropriate. In addition, develops and conducts training programs throughout the university community related to the services provided by the Victim Advocate Program, as well as specialized topics such as victim's right, rape awareness, etc.
  • Coordinates ongoing work group meetings between internal and external offices services victims such as University Police, University Counseling Center, Employee Assistance Program, Equal Opportunity Affairs, Alachua County Rape/Victims Advocate Program, Victim/Witness Program for the State Attorney's Office, Student Organizations, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, Student Health Center, Student Judicial Affairs Division, Division of Housing, Sexual Assault Recovery Services, (SARS), etc.
  • Collects information regarding victimization issues and disseminates this to the university community per the requirements of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
  • Performs additional duties as required by the Director of University of Florida Safety and Security and/or his/her designee. Other related duties.
  • This position is designated as an Essential Employee. Essential employees provide vital support to the University of Florida and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police/designee. Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices.


Expected Salary:

$47,000-$51,000, depending upon experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid FL driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree, Crisis intervention skills, knowledge of Criminal Justice System, Victim Services Practitioner Designation. Knowledge of Victimization Issues. General understanding of Florida Laws; skills in public speaking; knowledge of university community and Judicial Affairs; general computer skills.
