month(Hiring range depending on qualifications, not anticipated to
exceed $3,338 - $3,640 per month)
Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; this is a
temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2023 with a
possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program

About the Position:
The University Police department is dedicated to ensuring the
University Community's right to a crime free environment through
exemplary and professional service. We are seeking an exceptional
individual to join our team as the Community Service Specialist I.
The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude

Under general supervision, the Community Service Specialist I
performs security, public safety support, and related campus
community service functions, primarily at the CSUF Pollak Library.
Performs functions in accordance with the CSUF campus operations
procedures. Patrols the campus on foot, bike or vehicle to protect
the campus community and visitors from fire, theft, vandalism,
trespassing, and other crimes. Meets regularly with CSUF Pollak
Library administration and staff. Assists in the enforcement of
campus rules and regulations and reports hazardous conditions.
Maintains keys to the facilities, and will perform building checks,
open facilities, and secures campus facilities. Coordinates and
tests campus alarm systems. Assists the campus community in the
event of an emergency to include assistance with evacuations and
rendering immediate assistance to those in need. Notifies the CSUF
Police Department of incidents requiring police presence. Writes
incident reports to document activities that do not require
investigation by police. Monitors security cameras and assists the
bookstore and food services with loss prevention. Provides escorts
for students, faculty, and staff members as needed.
As a member of the University Police Department, supports efforts
in promoting an inclusive environment of teamwork and will
contribute towards ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are
incorporated in department operations, programs, and services.
Represents the CSUF Police Department in campus events and in
providing excellent customer service to supporting the needs of the
campus community. Performs other administrative and security
functions for the campus as deemed necessary. Other duties as
High school diploma or the equivalent and a minimum of three months
of related experience. The nature of the duties may also require
successful completion of a background check to include LiveScan
fingerprinting, physical and psychological exam, and/or the ability
to attend Police Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)
programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities.
Knowledge of and the ability to learn how to use the applicable
public safety related equipment and systems. Working knowledge of
applicable procedures and regulations related to campus security,
public safety, and parking. Working knowledge of alarm and radio
systems. Ability to detect and respond appropriately to potential
hazardous or crime situations. Ability to observe and recall
details and incidents. Ability to act and resolve parking and
traffic problems. Ability to write standard incident reports in a
clear and concise manner. Ability to interact effectively with a
wide range of individuals including the campus community, general
public, and law enforcement personnel. Ability to handle sensitive
situations with tact and confidentiality.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be
completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will
make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if
the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it
is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified
information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background
check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee
who was conditionally offered the position.
Experience working in a university police department of similar
complexity and size. Working knowledge of applicable procedures and
regulations related to campus security, public safety, and parking.
Working knowledge of alarm and radio systems. Ability to detect and
respond appropriately to potential hazardous or crime situations.
Ability to observe and recall details and incidents. Ability to act
and resolve parking and traffic problems. Ability to write standard
incident reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to interact
effectively with a wide range of individuals including the campus
community, general public and law enforcement personnel.

Works outside in all weather conditions and must be able to stand
for an extended period of time directing traffic or assisting in
critical incidents. This position is designated as a Campus
Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery
Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics
Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act
Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is
