Job Description
The Materials Research Center (MRC) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking applicants for a non-academic, full time Senior Research Specialist to operate, manage, support, and conduct research in the area of analytical electron microscopy of materials, in particular transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Primary responsibilities will be the operation and training on a Tecnai F20 STEM. Cross-training on a Helios Hydra CX FIB, a Nanolab 600 FIB, a PrismaE VPSEM, a Raith eLine PLUS e-beam lithography system, and Xradia Versa 620 microCT would be secondary responsibilities. This position reports to the Director of the MRC.
Specific duties include operation of a Tecnai F20 STEM and associated accessories, providing training and instructions to users for TEM and to provide routine maintenance and calibration of the TEM. Work with student and faculty researchers to develop new electron beam methods of materials characterization. Conduct demonstrations of the TEM to visiting classes or external groups. Give presentations covering the capabilities and novel techniques to campus and professional societies.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master’s degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science.
A PhD degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is preferred, as well as 3-5 years experience in Electron Microscopy.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating STEM instrumentation.
