Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Under general supervision works with TSU Athletic teams to teach Athletic Training and/or other human performance core related curriculum courses. Contribute to the department’s undergraduate teaching mission. Demonstrate a commitment to service on university, college and departmental committees. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in working with diverse students, faculty and staff. This position is responsible for delivering the six domains of athletic training (prevent, protect, evaluate, assess, rehabilitate and counsel) to TSU 16 sports: Women’s Soccer, Men and Women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, men and women’s cross country and track and field, football and bowling. May need some more about sport coverage and assignment.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Teaches Athletic Training and/or Human Performance core-curriculum courses at the undergraduate levels and maintains proficiency as needed and approved by attending trainings and meetings.
  • Responsible for completing all necessary requirements of Athletic Training program, rehabilitation, insurance and day to day involvement of the 16 intercollegiate sports.
  • Responsible for taping, bracing, padding and therapeutic modalities of athletic related injuries. Responsible for the primary survey or evaluation of all athletic related injuries. Responsible for medical clearing, medical counseling and completing all medical documentation as well as maintain confidentiality of documentation.
  • Responsible for budget inventory and ordering of required materials to supply and operate the training rooms. Distribute protocols of therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation to athletic related injuries as well as providing the necessary insurance paperwork to student-athletes.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of current information on NCAA / SWAC rules and bylaws. Ensures that adherence to NCAA operating compliance rules are addressed and carefully monitored.
  • Responsible for maintaining state licensure and national certification by annually completing the necessary continuing educational units ( CEU ).
  • Responsible for promptly reporting NCAA or Conference Rules and Regulation or University policies and procedures violations or suspected violations to the Athletic Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Hiring Range
$55,513.00 - $69,392.00

Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university in sports medicine or athletic training, and certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association ( NATA ) Certification required.

Required Licensing/Certification

National Athletic Trainers Association ( NATA ), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR ), Automated External Defibrillator ( AED ), First Aid, Corrective Exercise Specialist ( CES )

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology; able to evaluate injury and determine treatment. Administer first aid and CPR ; general knowledge of sports, recreation or athletic programs and student life in a college setting.
  • The constitution, bylaws, rules, regulations, advisory opinions, and interpretations as amended (collectively “Rules and Regulations”) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) and the Rules and Regulations of the SWAC relating to the conduct and administration of University’s Intercollegiate Athletics Department.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application.

Work Experience

Three (3) to five (5) years of successful athletic training experience required; college level experience preferred.

Working/Environmental Conditions
  • Working conditions involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and require following basic safety precautions.
  • Physical demands include moderate physical activity that includes prolonged standing and/or walking, handling moderate weight objects and/or using or carrying equipment.
  • Work may require routine travel
  • Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects light weight may be required.
  • This position is subject to open hours.
