The Content Marketing team within University Marketing and Branding is accepting applications for a Content Producer. This position reports to the Associate Director of Content Marketing. Online digital portfolio preferred for consideration. The estimated breakdown of time spent in this role is as follows: Content creation (40%); Publishing/curating content (25%); Editing (25%); Supervising/mentoring (10%).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creating written content for publication in the university’s primary public-facing channels, including jmu.edu, Madison magazine and social media
  • Furthering a tradition of excellence in storytelling in support of the JMU brand and University Advancement’s goals and objectives
  • Editing colleagues’ work for grammar, style and content
  • Assisting with all aspects of production of Madison, the magazine of James Madison University, including writing, proofreading, and photo and design choices
  • Using JMU’s content management system (CMS) to publish branded content on jmu.edu and tagging it to appear on other university web pages
  • Directly supervising one student Editorial Intern/Assistant, sharing your expertise and insight, helping them improve their skill sets and grow as professionals, and supporting them in reaching their career goals
  • Contributing story ideas and helping with content planning
  • Assisting the Content Marketing team with other projects as necessary
  • Participating in the Editors Skill Community
  • Monitoring college and departmental web pages for content that could be elevated and amplified more broadly

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Strong writing/editing skills
  • A gifted storyteller whose prose plays well on the web, in print and in social media
  • Skilled interviewer and researcher
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • A team player who gets along well with others and respects the departmental reporting structure

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems (CMS)
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in communications/marketing/journalism or related fields
