The Department of Physics and Optical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor faculty position to support the Engineering Physics Degree Program, which is focused on nanoengineering, starting August 15, 2023. Highly qualified candidates may be considered for positions at higher rank commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Physics and Optical Engineering offers a B.S. degree in physics, engineering physics (nanoengineering), and optical engineering, along with an M.S. degree in optical engineering. The department also supports several minors and certificates, including a semiconductor certificate and a material science and solid-state physics minor. Active research programs include semiconductors, nanotechnology, and photonics. In addition, engineering physics houses the primary users of a cleanroom facility for undergraduate teaching and research in nanotechnology, including e-beam lithography, atomic layer deposition, and nanoimprint lithography along with other standard cleanroom tools. Undergraduate courses in the areas of semiconductor devices, nanotechnology, MEMS, and silicon photonics are currently taught in the cleanroom. Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in engineering or physics. Candidates with backgrounds focusing on semiconductor microfabrication, nanotechnology, or material science/engineering are preferred. Essential job functions include teaching and advising students; service to the department, Institute, and professional communities; and continued professional development. Outstanding teaching is the most significant criterion for success at Rose-Hulman. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower and upper division courses in engineering physics and lower division courses in physics.
