Working under the direction of the Chair of Aviation Sciences, this position serves as the Chief Instructor for all FAA Part 141 Pilot School courses and is accountable for maintaining the Pilot School in accordance with regulations. Supervises Flight Instructors, Ground Instructors, Dispatch, Scheduling and administrative personnel.Ensures accurate record-keeping in accordance with FAA regulations and university policies. Ensures that training and flight activities are standardized, effective and efficient. Maintains a student-oriented approach to education, and ensures that students receive necessary guidance.Oversees the monthly conduct of required Part 141 safety meetings. Participates in and coordinates with the Aviation Sciences Safety Committee on the implementation of safety programs. Coordinates with the faculty Curriculum Committee as necessary. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a field of study directly related to the summary of duties plus professional experience related to the program or discipline. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
  • FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine Land, Multiengine Land, and Instrument Airplane ratings.
  • Current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Airplane Single-Engine, Airplane Multiengine, and Instrument Airplane ratings.
  • Current and appropriate FAA medical certificate.
  • Current flight review and instrument privileges.
  • Must meet FAA Part 141 Chief Instructor minimum qualifications.

    Knowledge of applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
    • Knowledge of standard pilot training practices and all applicable information resources.
    • Knowledge required to demonstrate competence in the privileges of the pilot and instructor certificates held.
    • Knowledge of pedagogy and instructional theory.
    • Knowledge of higher education standard practices.
    • Regularly demonstrate competence in all operational duties including piloting, flight instruction, ground instruction, student evaluation, instructor evaluation.

    • Ability to pass initial and recurrent tests related to Part 141 chief instructor duties.
