Senior Director of Development, Foundations and Corporations

Yale School of Medicine (YSM) seeks a visionary and strategic leader to serve as its Senior Director of Development, Foundations and Corporations.

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs at the Yale School of Medicine (YSM), the Senior Director leads a team of four development professionals and will be responsible for all fundraising from private foundations as well as corporations for YSM and its departments, and all associated institutes, centers and units.

The Senior Director will work closely with the Associate Vice President as well as the YSM leadership to set strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, secure and steward philanthropic support from foundations and corporations for YSM's institutional priorities and academic initiatives. The Senior Director will articulate the mission, academic strengths and funding priorities to foundation and corporate partners to support institutional partnerships, outlining the specific purpose and level of partnership, creating and maintaining a high profile for the needs of YSM and its units and effectively making the case for support of YSM to corporations and foundations. Serving on the senior management team, the Senior Director will participate in strategic planning efforts and ensure that fundraising efforts for corporations and foundations are aligned with strategic priorities.

Yale School of Medicine is one of the world's leading centers for biomedical research, advanced clinical care and medical education. It ranks eighth among medical schools receiving funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), sixth in NIH dollars per faculty member and tenth in best medical schools by U.S. News & World Report. The sixth-oldest medical school in the United States, it was chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1810 as the Medical Institution of Yale College. Since 1814, it has awarded 9,394 medical degrees. There are 5,632 living alumni with MD degrees, 5,439 with MPH degrees, and 1,440 alumni of the Physician Associate Program with the PA-C certificate or MMSC degree and 84 alumni of the Physician Assistant Online Program.

This is an exciting time in the history of medicine and an exciting time to be at Yale. The Senior Director will join a dedicated alumni and development team that is helping YSM seek better health and better outcomes. The successful candidate will take part in For Humanity, Yale's most ambitious campaign to date. YSM plays a critical role in the campaign, as does the philanthropy from corporations and foundations.

This position allows the candidate to work a hybrid schedule, including three days remotely and two days in the office or traveling for work purposes. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to be on site one to two times per week at the office in New Haven, Connecticut.

The successful candidate will be a skilled relationship builder who will inspire trust and collaboration with senior leadership, faculty and colleagues across the departments and the School. They will also be a savvy administrator, a strong advocate for staff and a thought leader. Preference will be given to candidates that bring at least 8-10 years of related experience in academic and industry settings, or other relationship-building areas in complex research organizations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.

All applications, nominations and inquiries are invited. Applications should include, as separate documents, a CV or resume and a letter of interest addressing the themes in the leadership profile.
