Description

The Department of Engineering at Swarthmore College invites applications for multiple two-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions beginning in the Fall 2023 semester. Specializations can range across the spectrum of engineering subfields, with particular focus on the areas of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. We seek candidates with the ability to teach advanced undergraduates of diverse backgrounds in both current Engineering courses – for example Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electronic Circuit Applications, Fundamentals of Digital and Embedded Systems, Numerical Methods for Engineering – and also electives related to the candidate's areas of expertise.

Swarthmore’s Department of Engineering provides an ABET-accredited general Engineering major, with faculty distributed across the subfields listed above plus Computer and Civil/Environmental Engineering, as well as a growing cross-cutting focus on Biomedical Engineering. All courses that count for our major have an attached laboratory component. Like the College at large, we value academic rigor and place a strong emphasis on undergraduate research. The department is housed in a brand-new science building, and research support is available through both departmental funds and internal college College grants. Additional information about the department is available at https://www.swarthmore.edu/engineering/ .

Located in the suburbs of Philadelphia and near Wilmington DE, Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Swarthmore has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, and actively seeks and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and world.
