Job Description:

Prospective and new undergraduate students
  • Meet with prospective students to discuss the degree program and answer questions. Respond to inquiries by email and telephone.
  • Represent SNRE in Preview sessions for student populations including Pathway to Campus Enrollment, High School AA, and transfer students.
  • Participate in recruitment events throughout the year including, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences recruitment events (e.g., NaviGATORing, Florida Days, Swamp Sessions, Florida Youth Institute, etc.), Majors and Minors Fair, Exploratory Advising Welcome Event, and as well as SNRE recruiting events
  • Assist with orientation and registration questions and advise on selection of courses.
  • Review transfer of credit for all newly admitted students. Make sure all academic work from other institutions is received by the Admissions Office and posted on the UF transcript. Conduct initial academic audit.
  • Advise each student regarding timely completion of critical tracking courses to stay on track in the major.

Current undergraduate students

  • Provide academic and career information to 190+ undergraduate students virtually, in-person, via telephone and/or via email regarding registration and academic advising each semester.
  • Register students for departmentally controlled courses and manage waitlists.
  • Advise non-majors of requirements and course selections for minor.
  • Notify students regarding deadlines including but not limited to drop/add, advanced registration, etc.
  • Prompt students to apply for graduation and review academic audit to ensure all degree requirements are met.
  • Manage the undergraduate listserv and send notices to the list.
  • Assist students with crisis management (mental health issues, withdrawal, dismissal, instructor conflicts). Refer students to appropriate administrative offices for more specialized assistance (Ombuds, Dean of Students, Counseling and Wellness Center, GatorWell, OneStop (Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Bursar).
  • Edit degree audits (e.g., course substitutions) for Environmental Science majors and minors
  • Organize the SNRE Liaison program. Recruit and interview new Liaisons each year.
  • Work closely with the Undergraduate Coordinator.

Courses, Curriculum and Catalog
  • Enter grades for students registered for SNRE research, thesis, and internship classes.
  • Assist faculty with processing online grade changes forms for departmental courses.
  • Review and update information on the degree programs in the undergraduate catalog each year.
  • Work with the Director on possible new degree programs delivered via online and through Innovation Academy.
  • Departmental course scheduling, room scheduling, textbook adoptions, and course evaluations.

Administrative

  • Serve on selection committees for faculty and staff positions.
  • Train and supervise OPS employees, graduate assistants and student assistants.
  • Train new faculty in academic regulations and policies, and in online systems functions.
  • Assist in updating the information for the SNRE website.
  • Represent SNRE in leadership and involvement roles in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Undergraduate Advising Council.

Marketing and Promotions

  • Create brochures and handouts for recruitment events.
  • Research promotion products and giveaways to hand out during recruitment events.
  • Schedule staff or students to represent SNRE at various recruitment events throughout the year.


Expected Salary:

$50,000 - $56,000; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of and ability to use PeopleSoft, Student Information System, myUFL, OneUF, Microsoft Office and other related computer software.

Experience in advising and counseling students at the undergraduate level.

Proven skills in effective written and oral communication and ability to keep detailed records of student advising.

Record of accomplishment of high levels of student service, attention to detail, working knowledge of University of Florida regulations and procedures to facilitate recruitment, excellent judgment, multicultural competency and sensitivity.
