Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Office of Information Technology (OIT) encourages applications for a Project Manager ! This position will work with the Director of Portfolio, Process and Service Management in OIT and will provide project management for assigned projects in the information security project portfolio as CU Boulder works to build an information security program that empowers the university community with the resources needed to secure its IT infrastructure.

The Project Manager will be responsible for the management of multiple concurrent lower complexity and urgency projects at various lifecycle stages. A primary element of this role is the ability to be very flexible in changes in scope, resources or timing related to an assigned project.

This role will also be responsible for managing organizational change on the projects in the information security portfolio by creating and implementing organizational change strategies and plans and ensuring that projects meet objectives by increasing adoption and usage of new/improved technology tools, business processes, and information security policies.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

This position will provide project management for assigned projects in the information security project portfolio by:
  • Performing overall management of projects, often several concurrently that are critical to OIT's business operations and overall mission.
  • Developing detailed project schedule, timeline, resource requirements, and budget.
  • Coordinating efforts of project members to stay on schedule and accomplish defined objectives.
  • Producing regular status reports that include project achievement status, risks, issues and concerns, and recommendations for action to remain on schedule.
  • Anticipating issues and proactively developing contingency plans.
  • Facilitating communication with project sponsors, partners, team members, constituents, service and support personnel, and management by creating and implementing a communication plan in coordination with OIT Communications.
Organizational Management
  • This position will partner closely with the Compliance Program Manager in information security to create and apply a structured methodology and lead organizational change activities for information security portfolio projects by completing activities such as:
    • Assessing the impacts of proposed changes.
    • Completing organizational change assessments and creating organizational change strategies.
    • Consulting and coaching of project teams on planned changes, and how to manage those changes.
    • Creating practical work for communications, training, sponsorship, and resistance/ partner management.
    • Engaging and supporting department leaders in their role as sponsors of change by increasing.
    • Leadership consensus through information findings and organizational change knowledge.
    • Coaching managers and supervisors on how to manage change and act as sponsors of change.
    • Integrating organizational change activities and tasks into project plans.
    • Evaluating and ensuring the impacted community is ready for change.
    • Defining and measuring success metrics for reports to the changing organization.
    • Supervising and reporting issues through the course of a change.


What You Should Know
  • This position is in a hybrid work situation, with the majority of work being performed remotely. This position may infrequently be expected to come on-site for project management or other unforeseen circumstances, so living within commuting distance is preferred.

  • Salary: $75,000 - $80,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. A combination of education and demonstrable experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • 1 year of project management experience that includes a combination of the following:
    • Managing multiple concurrent projects,
    • Staffing and managing project resources in a weak matrix organization,
    • Risk Management and Issues Resolution, and
    • Organizational management.


What You Will Need
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the application of project management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with organizational change principles, models, and standard processes.
  • Familiarity with one or more IT software development lifecycles (SDLC’s) used for IT projects including Agile development (Scrum, kanban, etc).
What We Would Like You To Have
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • PROSCI certification.
  • Ability to manage scope, time and resources using standard commercially available tools.
  • Experience completing work and motivating change in an inclusive, harmonious environment.
  • Interest in or experience with information security concepts.
