Job Description

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University is seeking part-time instructor(s) to teach beginning and/or intermediate Spanish in the spring 2023 semester. Semester begins on January 17, 2023 (appointment begins on January 10, 2023). Offer is contingent upon sufficient enrollment.

Spanish I ( SPA 101):
Introductory proficiency-based course which prepares students to understand, speak, read, and write in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Spanish.

Spanish II ( SPA 102):
Continuing proficiency-based course which develops communicative abilities in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Spanish.

Spanish III ( SPA 201):
Continuing proficiency-based course which refines and expands previously acquired linguistic skills in culturally authentic contexts. Activities are conducted in Spanish.

Spanish IV ( SPA 202):
Continuing proficiency-based course which focuses on reading, discussing, and analyzing authentic texts as a basis for the expression and interpretation of meaning. Conducted in Spanish.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree required; native or near-native fluency required. Experience in university level teaching preferred.

Responsibilities

It is understood that teaching assignments may include:

• Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
• Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
• Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
• Meeting all designated class periods.
• Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
• Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
• Building a positive rapport with students and faculty.
