Rutgers Global is the university-wide international affairs office, serving all three campuses and RBHS.  Rutgers Global promotes and advances Rutgers as a globally engaged institution through study and service-learning abroad programs, immigration processing and academic support services to international students and scholars, international partnership facilitation, and design and support of on-campus events that address global topics and create cross-cultural social networks.  

 

The Rutgers Global - Center for Global Education is a resource and research center that provides support for global learning at Rutgers University, offering services related to study abroad, curriculum internationalization, global travel, health and safety, global-local learning, global online learning, and pedagogy for experiential learning.

 

As part of the Center for Global Education, Rutgers Global - Study Abroad (RGSA) offers over 180 programs in over 50 countries, annually enrolls approximately 900 (nine hundred) students, and has a total budget of over $8 million.  The office is responsible for recruitment, admission, retention, academic support, teaching, assessment, and the functions of offices of student life, housing, counseling and creation.

 

With supervision from the Executive Director, the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Internationalization (CI) works with the Rutgers Global - Center for Global Education and Rutgers Global - Study Abroad to support global learning initiatives across the university.  The Assistant Dean helps provide faculty and staff development opportunities related to global learning at the intersection of domestic and international contexts, and provides leadership for initiatives integrating the university’s justice, equity, diversity and inclusion mission with global learning. 

 

The Assistant Dean leads efforts to integrate the Rutgers curriculum with study abroad.  Responsibilities include developing an extensive familiarity with the Rutgers University curricula and RGSA partners’ curricula through research and communications with departments, colleges, and partner institutions.  The Assistant Dean is expected develops and maintains a comprehensive database of RGSA partner program/course offerings and discipline-specific learning options available to Rutgers departments, administrators and students.  In conjunction with the schools and academic centers, The Assistant Dean of CI identifies opportunities and/or gaps in curricula and areas for enhancement and recommends solutions for building intentional study abroad programming into the curriculum. The Assistant Dean creates and maintains a repository of best practices and system of sharing those best practices across the university. 

 

The Assistant Dean has dedicated responsibilities as RGSA’s liaison to the academic departments and schools, helps develop advising tools integrating global experiences into degree progression, and ensures that RGSA materials and advising practices accurately reflect curricular requirements and college policies.  The Assistant Dean conducts workshops around curriculum internationalization and course mapping with Rutgers schools and departments and create program and curriculum integration guides for students, faculty members, advisors and administrators. The position is responsible for providing training to ensure that faculty and advisors are knowledgeable about undergraduate academic policies and practices and the overall global learning and study abroad curriculum offered by Rutgers.  The Assistant Dean ensures that the academic advising to the undergraduate and graduate students who want to study abroad are accurate, consistent and beneficial to students’ overall learning experience at Rutgers.

 

The Assistant Dean functions as a liaison between the Center for Global Education and the other academic affairs units at Rutgers, such as the advising offices, Registrar’s office, Area Studies offices, Language Engagement Program etc.  The position interacts extensively with departmental chairs and other faculty, as well as professional colleagues and support staff from university academic affairs offices, with the goal to resolve students’ academic issues and career exploratory issues related to study abroad. The Assistant Dean will also help lead special projects in collaboration with academic centers such as the Center for the Study of Global Racial Justice, Area Studies, and other academic or student affairs centers developing joint programing with the Center for Global Education. 

 

In conjunction with the Executive Director of the CGE and Director of RGSA, the Assistant Dean will collaborate on strategic initiatives designed to expand curriculum-aligned course offerings for students across the Rutgers campuses and academic units.

 

The Assistant Dean contributes to the overall success of RGSA programming by collaborating with program coordinators to expand and improve the quality of programming and services for RGSA’s key audiences by keeping staff up-to-date on the latest developments and needs in curricular integration across the university.
