The Assistant Director has a primary responsibility of meeting with students and alumni in appointments and drop-ins, and facilitating programming focused on various aspects of career development. They will collaborate with the full Career Development team on prioritizing outreach, developing and facilitating programs, and on all other aspects of team goals especially around increasing student engagement with Career and the advising teams in the Navigation Center for Student Success including overall utilization, student appointments, and engagement with the Handshake database.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Career Advising: Meehan School of Business (MSOB)

All career advisors are generalists, first and foremost, and advise students and alumni of all academic backgrounds and career interests. However, this role will have a particular focus on Accounting, Economics, Finance, Healthcare Management, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Sports Management

  • Advise students and alumni in all aspects of career development in person, over the phone, and virtually to ensure each person receives the appropriate coaching and strategy to move forward for their own personal success.
  • Create and conduct presentations and workshops on career-related topics both in-person and virtually.
  • Teach career development courses on foundational skills, exploring careers and academic pathways, and preparing for life after graduation.
  • Contribute to courses taught by other advising teams under the Navigation Center for Student Success.
  • Plan and facilitate site visit programs such as week-long externship programs and/or day-long site visit programs including training students and accompanying them to locations.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Recruitment Coordinator to both identify and build visibility for employers of interest and high-profile opportunities.

Liaison Relationships

  • Act as lead liaison to all faculty and leadership in MSOB programs, related student clubs, students, and alumni.
  • Focus outreach to MSOB majors promoting advancement in career development strategies, experiential learning opportunities, and post-grad placement.
  • Track senior liaisons’ post-grad strategies, responses to the First Destination Survey, and work to maximize outcomes six months after graduation.
  • Oversee and facilitate advising to first-year and sophomore MSOB majors in their foundational career development skills, exploration, and resume completion.
  • Facilitate in-school drop-in hours on a regular basis in Meehan School of Business, or other academic buildings.

Academic Advising

  • Facilitate the academic welcoming for a cohort of transfer students at the beginning of each semester including academic advising and orientation in collaboration with other Navigation Center offices, as well as offices in other divisions.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise an advising team for MSOB including a Career Advisor and/or intern(s) (undergraduate and/or graduate) when staffing levels allow.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development and networking opportunities in areas of career development/advising, technology, social media, and other relevant topics.
  • Report back to the full team on trends and interesting discussions from professional development opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement student marketing and outreach strategies.
  • Collaborate with the team in the development of general email marketing messages to target specific students/majors focusing on networking, internships, employment opportunities, etc.
  • Strategize and implement opportunities for students to engage and network with opportunity partners, track engagement, and measure their effectiveness.
  • Serve in at least one team leadership capacity pertaining to DEI, resource management, supervising the Career Ambassador program (student leaders), and/or managing internship initiatives including administering the Stonehill Full-Time Internship Program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3 years of advising experience at the college level or other relevant work experience.

Strongly Preferred

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, education administration, or another relevant field.


  • Experience with the Handshake career management system or another similar platform.
  • Experience supervising staff (professional, and/or undergraduate and graduate interns).
