Definition of Class

This position develops and coordinates department sponsored professional training and serves as a professional resource to external agencies. The incumbent uses specialized knowledge and experience to perform job duties and make independent decisions. The incumbent may supervise subordinate staff and works under limited supervision.

This is a professional position in which the incumbent develops and coordinates professional training and coaching support to Mississippi school districts. The Department of Teacher Education at The University of Mississippi seeks one (1) position for Coordinator of Professional Development in the area of technology integration and implementation of digital instructional practices.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Develop positive, open, professional, and collaborative working relationships with district and school leaders, technology staff, instructional technology coaches, teachers, and support staff.
  • Provide coaching to support, grow, implement, and refine digital learning and instructional practices, including:
    • Effective use and implementation of technology, including devices, learning management systems, software and other web-based tools;
    • Planning, developing, and delivering high-quality digital instruction aligned to the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards;
    • Implementing best practices in digital learning and instructional practices; and
    • Evaluating digital learning and instructional practices.
  • Effectively identify and prioritize the digital learning and instructional needs of district and school leaders, technology staff, instructional technology coaches, teachers, and support staff.
  • Recommend existing training or resources to support identified needs, and/or schedule, organize, design, and conduct professional development to districts and schools to support identified digital learning needs.
  • Obtain feedback and evaluations from administrators, teachers, and other support staff on the effectiveness of professional development and coaching services offered and adjust services as needed.
  • Coordinate with the MDE’s Office of Digital Learning to support the development of district Digital Learning Plans to ensure the sustainability of digital learning opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other coaches and MDE staff to develop coaching and professional development resources which support the continued implementation and improvement of digital learning.
  • Collaborate with other MDE staff to share and align resources and strategies; determine the effectiveness of the digital learning professional development and coaching services offered; and adjust resources and services as needed.
  • Develops and facilitates professional development training for synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities held in person and online.
  • Coordinates the production of materials to promote professional development services offered by the department.
  • Collaborates with various agencies to promote professional development services and determine training needs.
  • Creates and submits all required reports reflecting training presented and participating individuals to required personnel.
  • Stays abreast of professional developments related to the training programs through research and attending in-state seminars and/or conferences.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Develops, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates department sponsored professional training.
  2. Promotes professional development services.
  3. Serves as primary liaison between department and external agencies.


Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Master’s Degree in Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:
Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement:

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
