Academic Advisor


Lasell University seeks an Academic Advisor to join our team. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor reports to and assists the Dean of Student Success with the development and implementation of various programs and services provided through the Academic Advising Center. This individual manages a caseload of new and continuing advisees. The advisor also works closely with Academic, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs staff and faculty, and peer leaders to support students' transition to higher education and attainment of educational, career and life goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide academic advising, a teaching and learning process focused on helping the student connect higher education with educational, career and life goals;
  • Collaborate with community members to strengthen the referral process and student use of campus resources in areas including Career Services, the Academic Achievement Center, Counseling Center, and others;
  • Assist with developing and implementing a structured, proactive advising system and culture that enhances students' understanding and utilization of Lasell University programs, policies, procedures and resources;
  • Participate in all New Student Orientation Programs;
  • Utilize Starfish Student Success Platform's early intervention tool for communicating with students, faculty, and administrations, to support student success and other uses including advising referral system and record keeping;
  • Provide supplemental academic counseling for students from any of the following student populations: first-year students, students on academic probation, transfer students, students with disabilities, students changing majors and others;
  • Collect data for research and assessment on advising, first year experience, and in other areas;
  • Assist the Dean of Student Success with assessment of academic advising programs and services;
  • Manage advising related New Student Orientation sessions, materials and communications;
  • Support the transition of new advisors as needed;
  • Provide other advising related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:
  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or student personnel (candidates with a Bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience in a similar field will be considered);
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to a culturally and socio-economically diverse learning environment;
  • Ability to utilize technology to promote access, efficiency, and effectiveness of programs and services.

Some evening and weekends may be required; staggered schedules outside normal hours of operations may be assigned. This is a ten-month position.
