The Lamar University Department of Art & Design seeks an innovative individual whose creative practice intersects with a range of new and traditional media platforms within the areas of animation or interactive media and graphic design. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas: digital animation, web design, digital illustration, motion design, or other related areas of emerging media and design. The successful candidate should be eager to work in a collaborative teaching environment preparing undergraduate students for careers in both new digital technologies and print in studio art and design. The Lamar University Department of Art & Design is actively expanding curriculum in the area of digital animation, interactive design, and other intersections of new technology with traditional studio practices.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a well-rounded understanding of current and emerging trends in digital media. Candidates must be technologically up-to-date with industry standard software and hardware relevant to the position. Dependent on the candidate’s qualification, teaching responsibilities may include courses in digital animation, web design, motion graphics, and digital illustration at all levels. The ability to teach basic typography, UI/UX, or basic coding will be considered a plus. Other responsibilities of all Lamar University Faculty include curriculum development, service at all levels of the university, and maintaining a sustained scholarly or creative practice.

Provide collaborative leadership In curriculum, equipment, and facilities development for the undergraduate program.
Advise students as required,
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees,
Additional responsibilities as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree in one of the following areas: Digital Animation, Motion Design, Digital illustration, Interaction Design, Graphic Design or related field.
Demonstrated skill in industry standard software relevant to the position description,
Demonstrated ability to teach courses in one of the following areas: digital animation, motion design, digital illustration, or other related areas of emerging media and graphic design.
Evidence of an active exhibition record and/or industry or professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of successful teaching with relevant student work samples. Recent MFA graduates are also encouraged to apply,
Ability to teach graphic design courses such as Web Design, Basic Coding, and Typography as needed.
Some experience in VR/AR and 3D modeling animation software.
