FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Women and Gender Studies at Hunter College/CUNY invites applications for a Department Chair at the rank of tenured associate or full professor to begin August 2023.The position is fully located in the Women and Gender Studies Department. The new chair would be expected to serve a minimum of two three-year terms.
During the period of chair service, the teaching load is 1/1. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of scholarship and teaching core courses in the field of Gender Studies at the undergraduate level, collaborative administrative experience, the desire to shepherd an academic department in the next phase of its growth and development, and a commitment to and experience in fostering feminist literacies and inclusive excellence.
While areas of specialization are open, we are most interested in candidates whose expertise would contribute to the feminist intersectional and interdisciplinary focus of the department, particularly scholars with a strong grounding in intersectional feminist theorizing and praxis whose work focuses on one or more of the following: black feminisms, decolonial feminisms, and transnational feminisms. A focus on public policy questions as an extension of theoretical interests would also be welcome.
For Associate or Full Professor:
Ph.D. or terminal degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
