Overview

The IT Manager provides strategic direction, planning, budgeting, and management for information technology and computing services within the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, Department of Psychology and the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics.



Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive computing support organization and infrastructure that provides HPC, enterprise data storage, scientific programming, teaching, administrative and desktop computing support to faculty, staff and students. Oversee all computing and IT services in the institutes, including personnel, equipment, software and services.
  • Manages systems administration team that implements and supports the infrastructure and software, meeting the diverse research needs of a multi-disciplinary faculty.
  • Manages bioinformatics, research applications, and database development teams, which provide comprehensive support for the development and use of tools for managing, modeling, and analyzing “big data” in biology and Genomics research. Planning considers ongoing obligations while adjusting for the normal evolution of IT capabilities and incorporating the emergent needs of researchers.
  • Works with the faculty, researchers, and the broader university research computing community to ensure that PNI, Genomics, and Psychology IT infrastructure effectively supports the needs of research faculty. Performs in a consultative role for faculty and researchers, assisting in the development of data management and security plans in order to comply with the requirements of granting agencies and university policy.
  • Develops IT policies and procedures that are consistent with University interests and practices while meeting local needs, balancing competing needs. Ensures that IT activities and projects are responsive to and aligned with the needs and priorities of institutes by coordinating with stakeholders and translating disparate requirements into well-defined staff efforts.
  • Collaborates with Princeton Research Computing, central IT, and other University departments and institutes. Represents discipline-specific needs of constituent researchers to ensure the applicability of available external resources to the needs of the PNI, Psychology and Genomics. Builds effective partnerships to enable most effective use of institutional IT resources.


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience supporting a research department; budget management; and managing desktop support staff, developers, or systems staff (academic environment preferred)
  • Experience with HPC systems (RedHat Linux with SLURM scheduling or similiar systems)
  • Experience with Enterprise storage systems (Isilon, NetApp or similar systems)
  • Experience with facilities and infrastructure or data center management
  • Ability to translate business, research and academic needs into systems and computational service models
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong networking and network security experience
  • Strong systems administration and architecture experience
  • Experience procuring and negotiating favorable terms for large-scale enterprise systems
  • Demonstrated strategic planning ability
