The University of Washington Department of Periodontics is seeking a part-time (80% full-time equivalency, FTE) Research Assistant Professor who has proven ability in research in periodontology. The appointment is not eligible for tenure; it aligns with a 12-month service period, July-June. The position is open until filled, with an anticipated start date of February 1, 2023.

The University of Washington faculty engages in teaching, research, and service. The Department of Periodontics is a collegial community of clinicians and researchers who are committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship and service. This position will be expected to innovate and create teaching/research/service models that incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion.   

Responsibilities include participation in interdisciplinary research; mentoring predoctoral and graduate student research projects; promoting the field of microbiology to undergraduate and predoctoral dental students; and contributing to teaching the foundations of biological health.

The initial appointment of a Research Assistant Professor is typically for a period of 3 years. Renewal for a second term will be considered by the department during spring quarter of the second year.  The duration of the second term is dependent on the appointment FTE and ranges from three to 6 years.

Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.

Qualifications

Requirements include a Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent in microbiology, immunology or a relevant field.  Eligible candidates must have a demonstrated track record of funding and evidence of scholarly productivity and publications.
