Job Details

Buena Vista University’s School of Liberal Arts invites applications for the full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Social Work and Director of Field Experience in our CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Social Work program. The position, to begin in August 2023, includes both Director of Field Experience duties and classroom teaching across the social work generalist curriculum. The individual in this position provides primary leadership and oversight of field education experiences and is the liaison with all field placements. The candidate should enjoy teaching at the college level. In addition to Field Practicum, possible courses include theory, practice, and policy. We are open to the candidate’s area(s) of specialization. Other faculty responsibilities include student advising, partnering with community agencies, developing new partnerships, and participation in program development, assessment, and the maintenance of our CSWE accreditation. A course release is provided each semester for the person filling the Field Director position. The Social Work Program has been continuously accredited by CSWE since its beginning in 1984 and expects to maintain high ethical and professional standards for preparing future social workers in Generalist Practice.

Education and Experience:

Candidates must have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program. An LCSW is preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of two years post-MSW full-time practice experience; five years of full-time, post MSW professional practice experience is preferred. Candidates should have a record of successful work with diverse populations and individuals, experience creating and developing community partnerships, and supervising experience with students or staff. Teaching experience at the BSW level is strongly preferred.

Please submit your letter of application, graduate school transcripts (photocopies acceptable but official copies required for appointment), teaching evaluation summaries, teaching philosophy statement, and current vita with the names of 4-6 references (including title, address, e-mail address, and telephone number). Due to limited system capabilities, you can only upload one document. Please email your additional application materials to humanresources@bvu.edu and they will be attached to your profile.

An ongoing review of applications will begin January 9, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled. This position is not eligible for an employer-sponsored visa and all applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

A background check will be conducted on the final candidate. Buena Vista University is an EOE/ADA/Smoke-Free Employer, and especially welcomes applications from individuals who will contribute to any aspect of the university’s diversity.
