About the Department:

The Center’s primary objective is to serve as an academic hub for thought leadership and for the emergence of novel solutions to support the Homeland Security Enterprise in its efforts to effectively predict, detect, identify, monitor, track, disrupt, thwart, and ultimately dismantle Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) and other illicit actors. The Center is part of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Impact and is funded in part by a DHS multi-year, multi-fund grant.

About the Position:

The CINA Education and Workforce Development Lead will build and manage the DHS education and workforce development activities of the center. These activities will help educate and train the current and future homeland security workforce in science and engineering professions to enhance the capabilities and effectiveness of the homeland security community. The focus of this role is to train existing professionals and cultivate HSE-critical skills and experience among current students through a variety of projects, programs, and events. This position is essential to successfully execute the education and workforce development aspect of the center’s mission (https://cina.gmu.edu/about/mission/).

Responsibilities:

  • Establish DHS and component human capital and workforce needs as they relate to the CINA mission, and develop, execute, manage, and measure plans and programs to meet those needs;
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of CINA-relevant academic programs (graduate and undergraduate majors, minors, concentrations, certificates, and new courses);
  • Manage the identification, development, and delivery of professional training (online and face-to-face) related to CINA domains, to include coordination with FLETC and training for local and state LEOs;
  • Plan and manage workshops and seminars to include annual Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) Week events, and career development activities for students;
  • Lead coordination of visiting fellows and interns with government and industry; and
  • Directly supervise wage, student wage, GRA’s, or other support staff if necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in a field related to CINA’s mission (criminology, data analytics, forensics, etc.). A Master’s degree in another field may be augmented with relevant experience;
  • Experience working in a higher education setting;
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse audience of stakeholders and collaborators from various disciplines in academia, government, and industry;
  • Outstanding time-management and organization skills to coordinate multiple programs, trainings, and workforce development related events;
  • Must support and foster an environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and high-quality customer service; and
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success and experience in program or project management; and
  • Experience developing and managing various aspects of workforce development programs, preferably in a US Government setting.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

For full consideration, applicants must apply for FA16Hz at https://jobs.gmu.edu/; complete and submit the online application; and upload a cover letter, resume, and a list of three professional references with contact information.
