Position Summary
Governors State University, located in University Park, about 30 miles south of the city of Chicago, is looking to fill a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health, College of Health and Human Services. The candidate will primarily teach graduate level courses, be active in research/creative scholarly activities, and provide service at multiple levels both within the university and outside the university. Classes are primarily in the evening and a mix of hybrid and online. We welcome candidates who embrace the diversity of our student population and those who understand how to engage non-traditional and traditional students.
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision preferably from a CACREP -accredited doctoral program ( ABD candidates may be considered with completion of degree by the end of the first academic year of appointment) or related degree with a minimum of 1 year teaching in a full-time faculty position prior to 2013;
• Experience in clinical mental health counseling and counseling substance use disorders;
• Experience in teaching core counselor education courses (e.g., theory, techniques, group counseling, ethics, etc.) and core substance use disorder courses (co-occurring disorders, motivational interviewing, etc.)
• Experience in academic supervision for practicum students and interns
• Is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (or is able to obtain these within the first two years)
• Experience working with non-traditional, first generation, under-served students.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching in higher education
• Experience in advising, mentoring, and supervising graduate students
• Experience in program development and accreditation
• Experience with the addictions field
• Experience with the mental health counseling field
• Experience with research and grant writing
