Counseling Intern - Unpaid, Part-Time

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This position is for graduate students who are working towards the completion of a licensure track Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or equivalent. This Internship provides clinical experience and supervision for academic credit in the context of a formal learning contract with an accredited graduate program. This Internship fulfills the requirement for pre-Master’s clinical experience for the LMHC license in Massachusetts.



Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and referral for student clients;
  • Document confidential student information, assessment, treatment, and referral data in an electronic health record;
  • Participate in campus outreach, psychoeducational programming, and mental health screenings;
  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, and parents on student mental health needs;
  • Attend and contribute to supervision and clinical meetings;
  • Participate in up to two (2) hours per week of supervision from a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC);
  • Contribute to a weekly counseling staff meeting/seminar for group supervision;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in an accredited graduate degree program in Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or equivalent with a signed learning contract for Internship;
  • Available to work twenty (20) to twenty-four (24) hours per week for a full thirty-two (32) week academic year.

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary Range:
This is an unpaid internship.

Classification: Part-time internship.
