Auburn University at Montgomery’s Office of Student Affairs is searching for an AUM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ( DEI ) Officer. Reporting to the Dean of Students, this position is responsible for supporting diversity education and engagement through the Office of Student Affairs by developing and implementing educational, cultural, and social programs designed to improve the quality of AUM’s student experience. The DEI Officer serves as a member of the Student Affairs team responsible for orientation, transition, and retention programs.

Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer
  • Coordinates, develops, markets, and executes diversity and inclusion-focused education, programs, and events for AUM faculty, staff, students, and community members.
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements diversity initiatives and programs for orientation sessions, diversity training for students, and various programming events.
  • Develops programming to enhance the integration of international students into the AUM student population by creating strategies that strengthen interactions between domestic and international students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops, maintains, and coordinates student, faculty, and staff international programming opportunities through the Global Education Center ( GEC ).
  • Provides information and assists AUM students in areas such as university policies and various campus resources.
  • Creates and fosters an inclusive atmosphere that is supportive of all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supports and cultivates relationships with student groups and works with various units to help execute diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities.
  • Advises and provides leadership support to recognized affinity groups and cultural student clubs and organizations, including guidance in event & program planning.
  • Develops an annual strategic plan and quantitative and qualitative assessments, development, implementation, and evaluation of diversity, equity and inclusion programs for students and student staff.
  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, supervision, and retention of AUM student workers who reflect the diversity of the University.
  • Represents the University at admission, orientation, and other events, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of applicable University practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use a computer and relevant software applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Ability to effectively use technology.
  • Ability to speak in public and make presentations.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including interpersonal skills. Ability to work and communicate with people from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to supervise. Ability to conduct student interviews and provide training for participants, students, and/or clients. Ability to process, review, and evaluate student documents
Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related experience. Experience working in higher education is preferred. Additional education in related fields can be submitted for experience.

The successful candidate must be a passionate and energetic, self-motivated team player with sound judgment, management and problem-solving skills, flexibility and the ability to manage multiple projects.
