Brief Summary of Work for this Position

To coordinate course tutoring support services provided by the ULC, primarily one-on-one and group peer support, including in-person and online academic support. Hire, train, and supervise a staff of peer tutors.
  • Manage one-on-one and small group, in-person and online content tutoring for university classes.
  • Select, supervise, train and review 25-40 undergraduate and graduate students working as peer tutors.
  • Maintain and execute tutor training certification program according to College Reading and Learning Association (or appropriate credentialing agency) guidelines.
  • Work directly with appointment system, inputting tutor availabilities and input/manage tutor profiles.
  • Engage in outreach to faculty, staff and students for Tutoring Services, including course presentations.
  • Develop and deliver presentations on behalf of Tutoring Services and the ULC ; represent the ULC at campus events.
  • Ensure student tutoring requests are fulfilled.
  • Consult with students who are removed from ULC tutoring.
  • Coordinate with academic departments to provide subject-specific large group Study Sessions.
  • Collaborate with ULC staff, especially the Director, department leadership team, and Coordinators, to administer ULC services and deliver effective student support.
  • Serve on various Student Affairs and University committees.
  • Maintain relationships with faculty, advisors and key personnel across campus to market programs and meet students’ needs.
  • Consult with other campus departments as relevant.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Masters degree in an academic area served by the center, Education, Higher Education Administration, or in a related field is required.
• Three or more years experience in academic support, higher education administration, or related field also required. Experience gained while pursuing degree(s) is acceptable.
• Experience teaching, supervising, and/or training students required. Experience gained while pursuing degree(s) is acceptable.
• A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to student-centered learning.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • PhD in Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Experience teaching in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of theories, models, and practices of learning, especially collaborative learning, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of retention, persistence, and academic support theories and practices preferred.
